A gis that contains multiple planes will have a three-dimensional shape. A gis that contains a curved wall will have two planes. A gis that contains many planes will have many 3-dimensional shapes that can be stacked on top of one another, forming a 3-dimensional shape.

A gis is actually a mathematical concept. We can think of a gis as a set of equations, and the equations can have many different forms. In general, the more equations we have, the more complicated our gis will be.
